The Merzbow Archive series by Slowdown Records, which has released twelve editions so far, enters its thirteenth edition. This edition consists of recordings made between 2011 and 2012. The Great East Japan Earthquake occurred around this time, and Merzbow responded by releasing "Dead Zone" on the Ukrainian label Quasi Pop Records in 2011, which deals with radioactive contamination from the Fukushima and Chernobyl nuclear accidents. Other early creative responses to the situation include a photo of the Nagasawa Water Treatment Plant used on the cover of "UZU ME KU" (Samboy Get Help! Recordings, 2012), which shows a pillar cracked by the disaster. His trilogy of works on the theme of "sacred cows," "Kamadhenu," "Surabhi," and "Gomata," which was commissioned by Hypnagogia, continued the theme of animal rights, but gradually attempts are being made to move to non-direct animal rights themes such as "Lop Lop" (Rustblade, 2011) and later "Konchuuki" (Essence Music, 2015). In addition, in terms of equipment, there has been the introduction of new, smaller oscillator synths, drone machines, and miniature kotos, which characterize the sound very strongly.
This album "Bit Blues" contains three performances recorded in 2011 and 2012. Some of these performances were used for a collaboration with Full Of Hell. The first track has a noisier feel than most of this period's work, but the second track has an oscillator drone that sounds like a tone cluster, and a groovy movement that is unique to this period. In the third track, the pulse of the electronic sound, which is more obsessive than before, makes us feel the increase in speed, and it is in conflict with the noise.

He has been working with post 1970s noise for more than 40 years & you need to understand that scratchy squelches, bleats, drones, explosive buzzes & high pitched squealing squeals are his trademark. There is joy in this racket & it is well worth discovering. I've stopped cooking and eating turkey on Thanksgiving thanks to Masami! MERZILLA
It's for the Kakapo! The Kakapo is critically endangered; the total known adult population is 142 living individuals, all of which are named. The introduction of predators such as cats, rats, ferrets, and stoats during European colonisation almost wiped them out. Thank you Masami & Oaken Palace!! MERZILLA
While still sounding harsh a lot of the time, this will not obliterate you like other Merzbow releases. Steady elements give a noob like me something to cling to amidst the chaos. Hans

Classic full spectrum assault! Layers and layers of screaming feedback and psychedelic atmosphere shifts. The cd packaging is excellent and contains an anecdote about Masami visiting a midget circus in Russia. killtime
