about

The Merzbow Archive series by Slowdown Records, which has released fourteen editions so far, enters its fifteenth edition. This edition contains recordings from 2014~2015. Since the previous edition of "Double Beat Sequencer" featured sequencer-based recordings from the same period, this edition collects performances without sequencers (although there are a few tracks with sequencers). Previously released original albums such as Wildwood (Dirter Promotions, 2015) and Torus (Jezgro, 2017) were recorded during the period overlapping this edition.
This album, Purple Fish, contains four performances recorded in September 2014. Sequencers are used in the first, third, and fourth tracks, where the performances are combined with EMS VCS3 and EMS Synthi-A. Although the composition is very simple, the distorted high frequency feedback sounds and the complex modulation give the electronic sounds a strange kinetic quality that jumps clearly into your ears. In the second track, Vermona's analog kick drum generator Kick Lancet is used, which creates a lower center of gravity different from that of sequenced performances.
